What Is eDPI?

Understand the number behind in-game mouse sensitivity, with examples you can verify.

QUICK ANSWER

What does eDPI mean?

eDPI means effective dots per inch: mouse DPI multiplied by the in-game sensitivity multiplier. It gives a single number for comparing mouse settings within the same game. eDPI is not a universal measure of turn distance across different games.

Formula

eDPI = mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity

For example, 800 DPI at 0.32 Valorant sensitivity is 256 eDPI; 400 DPI at 0.64 is also 256 eDPI. Both have the same modeled base turn rate in Valorant, even though the mouse hardware setting differs.

Percentage-based games

If the game displays 10% sensitivity, use 0.10 as the multiplier. At 800 DPI, a 10% setting gives 80 eDPI. The calculator accepts the displayed 10 and converts it correctly.

What eDPI cannot tell you

Valorant, CS2 and Overwatch 2 use different base mouse-look scaling. Identical eDPI values across these games do not mean the same mouse distance. Use cm/360 for cross-game physical turn comparisons.

Frequently asked questions

Is eDPI better than DPI?

Neither is better. DPI is a mouse input setting; eDPI combines DPI and game sensitivity to make same-game comparison easier.

Can two different settings have the same eDPI?

Yes. For example 400 × 0.8 and 800 × 0.4 both equal 320.

Why does my eDPI look high in Overwatch?

Its in-game sensitivity scale differs from Valorant and CS2. Compare cm/360 rather than raw eDPI across games.
